Tuesday we had another Phone Call of Doom from the yard - this time it was our other stallion, Marimbah. The geldings had got out and in trying to join them he had tried to jump a gate - only three legs made it over and he was stuck with the near hind hanging over the top of the gate. The Fire Brigade Special Rescue Squad came off strike to come out and rescue him (and also some individual firemen who came in their own cars...) and with their help and that of a vet who sedated him he managed to get free - they were wonderful. He managed to walk about a quarter of a mile from his field to the yard even though sedated, and then handled a ride to horspital as they were considering x-rays.
In the end they decided that in view of where the likely damage was, there was no point x-raying, as the muscle mass would have made the images too indistinct to be useable. However they did discover that the apparently small wound at the top of his inner thigh was through to the bone. So it was a full leg bandage and back home.
He is feeling all right in himself (though he hasn't bitten me yet which means he is only about 95% normal!) and it is difficult to keep the wound covered, being where it is. Vet is coming out again tomorrow to redress and check his progress. While he is out I will have him look at Jala as she had a hot foot tonight and though she doesn't seem to be lame better checked than not!
These last two months have been a nightmare!

Poor lad , its sounds like he has been very very lucky. Hoping he has a speedy recovery and fingers crossed thats the end of your run of bad luck for a long time  |

Feel for you and Marimbah, that really is a nightmare accident my nerves would be shot to pieces after that. So glad you got such wonderful help with the rescue. Fingers x for a quick recovery for Marimbah and you. |

Sometimes with horses it's one thing after another. I'm sure all will be well, I never thought I would say I hope he tries to bite you! |

Oh lordy what a nasty accident - real heart in the mouth stuff, he is going to feel very sore and pulled about for a while. Three cheers for the firemen though.
The bull that shared the field with my horse did the same thing when he didn't much fancy having his TB test. It was awful, he was hanging off the gate for a while before the gatepost snapped (very heavy bull).

Fingers crossed that the pair of them recover ASAP, and if these things come in threes then hopefully that's your run of bad luck over. |
