Imagine my surprise when letting out the hens this morning,there for all to see was a clutch of 4 eggs! What a brave girl she is!Good old Mary was the hen with bumble foot who had to be injected every other day with antibiotics. The shock of it all brought on a premature moult. But now she is magnificent again! Fully feathered and only a slight trace of the limp. She has chosen a new nest on top of a bale of hay and has obviously been at it without us noticing for a few days! I did see her nestling on the bale on Christmas day but thought nothing of it! I opened the hen house this morning and despite the gale and squally weather she hopped out and had a scratch round in the mud. The other 3 peeped out but are too bald yet to participate. I'm still smiling! Wait until I tell all those sceptical people who thought she should be ....dispatched! |

Nippo piccies of the baby piggies are a must, i love piggies used to have them years ago.

Alice I do envy you. I have had hens for years but none at the moment, I do miss them and your stories remind me how wonderful they are. Maybe this year I will have some again, we will have to see, so many demands on my time with the other animals and I am a bit picky about their management so I won't have unless I can spend enough time with them. We have a litter of six little piggies at the moment and they are such adorable time wasters I'm in trouble already.
Reading about your girls will have to be my fix for now. |

Great news Alice, my lot seem to be on strike at the min, i think they have down tools over christmas, i have given them all some christmas cake today to cheer them up
