Arab Maiden over 7 Furlongs: To Win - Sandababa has been running some great races in defeat recently, 2nd to Marwah here over 9f and to Basela over this trip at Wolves; should go one better today. PLACE CLAIMS - Razen is suffering from bridesmaid syndrome at the moment, 2nd to Suhaim at Taunton and twice to Miswadah inc. at this track before coming 2nd to Syrah Gris on Dubai Day, could open his account here. Stablemate Qabas was an eye catching 3rd to Basela over this trip at Wolves.
OPEN (TB/AA) Handicap 0-170 over 7 Furlongs: To Win - Fulvio ran a good race when 2nd to Oh Sunny Boy at Wolves over 9f last time out, should take this event. PLACE CLAIMS - Red Myth won well at Fakenham last year and looked like she was coming back to form when 3rd to Oh Sunny Boy last time out. Kitchen Sink won at Taunton last season and could be dangerous if bouncing back to form.
Arab Handicap 0-70 over 1 Mile: To Win - Al Batra'a has been knocking on the door this year and placed in all 3 maidens inc. 2nd to Laafet at Fakenham, hated the ground at Newbury last time out and should score here. PLACE CLAIMS- Jamaahir won well at Wolves (beating WFA Leopard) and could be in the shake up, while Altesse Kossack won over this trip last season and has been great heart this season inc. when winning at Wolves and coming 2nd to Noble Athlete over 9f last time out.
Arab Handicap 0-55 over 1 Mile 4 Furlongs: To Win - Raihan has been revitalised this season winning twice at Fakenham over 8f and Wolves over 9f both times ridden by todays talented jockey, trip should suit and she can defy top weight. PLACE CLAIMS - Senor Dublcheck won well last season and has been in great form this term, 3rd to Katwalk at Taunton and an excellent run to come 3rd to Syrah Gris in the opening handicap on Dubai Day and should win here. Mahbishai won well at Taunton in May over 8f beating subsequent dual winner Sabden and has place claims.
Arab Conditions over 7 Furlongs: To Win - Former Breeders Cup winner Tidarbret won twice last season and looked to be back to his best when 3rd to Aktar Lotois in valuable conditions event at Newbury, he can win here. PLACE CLAIMS - El Adjban won twice last season over 7 &8f, he won competitive Premier handicap over 6f before coming an honourable 3rd in G1 Zaabeel Stakes. Burning Fancy ran an eye catching race when 3rd in G1 Hatta Stakes over 10f and won the 6f G3 sprint last term and should be handy.
OPEN (TB/AA) Handicap over 1 Mile 6 Furlongs: To Win - Yankey was champion TB last season winning 3 times from 8-13f, step up in trip will suit and his last run will put him spot on and he will relish the step up in trip. PLACE CLAIMS - Adalar looked back to his best when trouncing Fulvio 20 lengths at Fakenham over this trip and is dangerous here, while How Realee stayed on well when 3rd to Annie Moyles here over 8f and the step up in trip will suit.
Arab Handicap 0-45 over 7 Furlongs: To Win - Terminators Dream seems to have lost his way this term, but if reproducing his 2nd to Jamaahir over 6f last season he could win this. PLACE CLAIMS - Egypt is very tough and versatile and has won over sprints and distance races, she should be in the shake up. While Pavot Al Kyle is no young gun now but is tough and could be in the shake up in this grade (yard in form).
Arab Handicap 0-85 over 7 Furlongs: To Win - Noble Athlete has won his last two starts impressively, at Wolves over 9f (beat Suhaim) and at Newbury over 8f (beating Maghazi), tends to go better when there's cut in the ground but in great heart this year. PLACE CLAIMS - Suhaim has improved impressively this season winning over 6f at Taunton and placed in good handicaps, inc. 2nd to Manan over 10f last time out (beating Nakib Du Falga and Hidalgo).

The Angel Arabians Maiden Stakes over 7 Furlongs: An impressive pillar to post victory here from Razen (Saut De Loup x Hadhoodh) who was given a superb confident ride from David Turner, he set off at a decent gallop and as they turned for home Turner kicked into a clear lead with Mesbaah, Sandababa and Hajes all chasing hard in behind. But as they reached the final furlong it was clear that smart but luckless performer Razen (2nd three times this season inc. Dubai Day) was finally going to have his day and Turner drove him clear for an easy 3 length victory for trainer Salim Hakmani and owner/breeder the Royal Cavalry of Oman. Mesbaah (Al Sakbe x Qosheeyya) made an encouraging debut back in second, always travelling well he chased the winner inside the home straight and although never looked like reaching he was well clear of the third. The eye catching favourite Sandababa (Burning Sand x Bashaair (Wiking) was a shade disappointing back in third, he seemed a little tapped for toe in the final furlong but stayed on ahead of Hajes.
The Penn Challenge Open (TB, AA, PBA) Race Handicap Stakes 0-170 over 7 Furlongs: Ditzy Diva quickly went to the head of the field in the early stages, but Fulvio (Sword Dance x One Tuff Gal) was travelling ominously under Alice Wells; and as they got to the half way sateg Fulvio was in command with Ditzy Diva Chasing in behind. As they turned into the home straight Fulvio went for home under determined owner/trainer/jockey Alice Wells and galloped into a clear lead for a length and a half victory to give Wells her first winner ARO racing. Kitchen Sink came with a late ran inside the home straight and just battled home for second ahead of Ditzy Diva. The latter ran a good race in third and is one to watch next time out.
The Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club Handicap Stakes 0-75 over 1 Mile: They set off at a decent clip with Cosmic Girl, Jaamahir and Flashcat all racing prominently, but as the approached the half way stage the Royal Cavalry of Oman’s Al Batra’a went to the head of the field with Flashcat and Maha Dubai all travelling well in behind. As they turned into the home straight David Turner pressed into a clear lead on Al Batra’a (Newday x Mustabshirah) with only Maha Dubai and Flashcat throwing down a challenge, and inspite of flashing her tail this smart mare pulled clear to win by three lengths to give trainer Salim Hakmani and jockey David Turner a double. Maha Dubai (Al Sakbe x Horkidee) ran a good race in defeat, she was always in contention but couldn’t go with the winner in the final furlong and had to settle for second. Back in third saw the ever game WFA Leopard (Bengali D’Albret x Lapsana) come with a strong late run down the stands side to snatch third from a one paced Flashcat.
The Royal Cavalry Of Oman Novice Rider 0-55 Handicap Stakes over 1 Mile 4 Furlongs: Trainer Adam Newey continued his fine run of form scoring here with Samauring Zayin losing her maiden tag in fine style under a superb ride from Craig Thompson. The field went off at a steady gallop with Mahbishai, Raihan and Bonham all helping to force the pace, but as they galloped into the back straight Bonham was being pushed along as Senor Dublecheck went into the lead about 5 furlongs from home with Samauring Zayin cruising in second. As they turned for home Senor Dublecheck had the advantage in the centre of the course while Samauring Zayin galloped along side by the rail, and these two quickened up and pulled well clear of the field; but as they entered the final furlong Craig Thompson drove Samauring Zayin (The Wiking x Jumah (Div)) into a length advantage and galloped clear to score her first victory for owner/breeders Zayin Arabian Stud. Speaking afterwards winning trainer Adam Newey said “She has always showed ability at home and its good to see it translate on the track, she loves her work and is talented but its taken a while for the penny to drop; and hopefully that win will have boosted her confidence.” Senor Dublecheck (Bengali D’Albret x Mais (Mamluk)) ran a great race back in second, he went with the winner and made her pull out all the stops but couldn’t get past her, he remains in great form and versatile having come 3rd on Dubai Day over 7 furlongs. Bonham (Bakara x Bonnie Jet) was 14 lengths back in third, he was being pushed along from the half way stage, but he stayed on in the final furlong ahead of a one paced Notid.
The Royal Cavalry of Oman Arabian Stakes over 7 Furlongs: Jockey Simon Walker kicked off a 4 timer here recording his first victory of the afternoon aboard the Athbah Stud’s smart mare Burning Fancy (Burning Sand x Sayquins and Lace). She was held up at the back of the field as Al Seif and Tidarbret forced the pace up front, as they turned for home Al Seif galloped along side the rail Tidarbret down the centre of the track, but Burning Fancy came with a strong run down the stands side and galloped to the front inside the final furlong to win ¾ of a length for trainer Bill Smith. Al Seif (Tidjani x Alep Alchame) ran another solid race back in second, he rallied hard inside the home straight and went down fighting; he should be winning soon. While Tidarbret (Bengali D’Albret x Iktidar) ran another solid race back in third, he went with the first two in the final two furlongs but was a shade tapped for toe in the closing stages.
The Connolly’s Red Mills Horse Feeds Open (TB, AA, PBA) Handicap Stakes over 1 Mile 6 Furlongs: Emma Owen bravely tried to make all on Adalar, but Jiggalong was always travelling well in behind along with How Realee and Yankey who were all prominent. As they turned for home it quickly became a three horse race with Jiggalong, How Realee and Adalar all duelling inside the final two furlongs; as they hit the final furlong Jiggalong (Mark Of Esteem x Kalamansi) pulled clear under a great ride from Simon Walker to pull clear by 4 lengths to give owner/trainer Delyth Thomas the start of a treble. Commenting afterwards Delyth Thomas said “I accidentally bought her at Ascot Sales last November, I liked her instantly although she was very weak looking, but we’ve given her time to strengthen up and she’s won well today.” Adalar fought hard in the final furlong and set a decent pace but had to settle for the runner up spot. While How Realee ran a big race back in third, he challenged Adalar hard in the final furlong and only went down by half a length to Adalar.
The Athbah Stud 0-45 Handicap Stakes over 7 Furlongs: Delyth Thomas quickly followed up here with another win with Pavot Al Kyle, easily the oldest horse in the field at the grand old age of 15; he showed that age is but a number by showing the young guns a clean pair of heels to outsprint the field and win by an easy three lengths. They went a fair clip from the start with Trip To Paris, Terminators Dream and Golden Dream all helping force the pace, but the writing was on the wall as they turned for home and an in form Simon Walker galloped into a clear lead down the centre of the track to secure his victory on the ever green Pavot Al Kyle (Pavot Al Maury x Ellaria). Thomas stated afterwards “I am thrilled with that, he’s been a lovely horse for the yard and that’s his 8th win from 44 starts, he won over 7f back in 2000 as a 4 yr old and its good to see him win again over this trip. This is his last year on the track and its great to get another win with him.” Carol Legg’s Golden Dream (Khairouan x Autumn Dream) ran a big race in third, she was always handy and kept on well inside the final furlong and looked set for second until stable mate Terminator’s Dream (Bengali D’Albret x Dantes Dream) came with a wet sail down the stands rail and just got up to claim second; both look to be running into form and should be winning soon.
The Royal Cavalry of Oman 0-85 Handicap Stakes over 7 Furlongs: An intriguing three horse race robbed slightly of its value by Nakib Du Falga being unruly at the start and jinking badly as the tapes went up, as a result Ollie Garner on the speedy Pinkie Tuscadero bravely tried to make all. She galloped into a clear six lengths lead along the back straight with a one paced Noble Athlete galloping hard in behind and Nakib Du Falga seriously detached about 30 lengths adrift. As they turned for home Pinkie Tuscadero started to falter, and the ever game Noble Athlete (Dorwan Du Cayrou x Noble Dame) under a determined Simon Walker (landing a 4 timer on the day) galloped into the lead as his stamina kicked in to win by six lengths to give Delyth Thomas a treble on the day. Delyth Thomas (now second in the trainers championship) said “He’s been a star for the yard and is right back to his best now with that being his third win in a row, and he is now in the lead for the title of Champion Arab.” Pinkie Tuscadero (Izentespeshal x Altyv) ran another good race in second but couldn’t sustain the pace in the final furlong, she took second a good 12 lengths ahead of the rebellious Nakib Du Flaga (Dormane x Djoulia Du Falgas).

Posted - 08 Aug 2011 : 11:26:35 PM Thanks all very pleased with Sammy's win, she did it well and finally showed the ability we know she has, very proud of her and great training performance from Adam Newey and ride from Craig Thompson.
I didn't tip her because she was completely out of form going into the race, last in similar grade at Hereford and again at Wolves over 2 miles, I didn't think she'd get the trip but for once (and once only) am happy to be wrong. The moral of the story is that us owners should listen to our trainers, I did and now I have a winner...yippee!
