I bought her from my OH step brother 2yrs ago as I wanted a fun hack. Tonto needed a lot of schooling, she was green as grass. She would try to go in the middle of the road (trotter) and had no idea of leg aids. Yet I liked this mare. I simply hacked her gently over the next 6 months, schooling as we went along, this gave her no stress. Tonto then got fat! yep! pregnant! she had a nice red/white colt, sire unknown. Colt was sold to a local riding instructer at 6 mths old. Then we hacked again.... My niece became ponyless so I said she could ride Tonto. She had fun hacking with the village teens. I took her for jumping lessons at my ex-boss SJ Carl Curtis. After 4 lessons nights drew in and lessons ceased. However, this novice mare went from a cross pole to a 3ft 6in course in 4 lessons. She listened to every command from Holly. When Holly failed, Tonto failed. This winter, Holly and Tonto hacked and occassional hunt. Last week, first XC, she cleared all and took care of Holly if she made a mistake and vice versa. Today, BOOM! IN AT THE DEEP END! a lesson with XC guy and they cleared with ease the OPEN COURSE. The guy said `a bit more confidence, this mare will go to the top!` I knew when I bought this mare she had a heart of gold. She has her quirks! ie- nervous on off-side and acts cold backed for a few minutes. I advertised her very cheap and I was very honest. Not sold! Now she is off the market and we will see exactly what she can achieve. Very proud :-)

Posted - 10 Apr 2011 : 09:39:00 AM As soon as I get the pic`s I will post them. Today Tonto has her 2nd job to do, take care of the yaerling colts. She is such a good nanny. They gallop around and tease her, she stands in the middle rearing, she never kicks them , she just tells them off.
