Posted - 05 Oct 2010 : 11:54:11 AM Hi Lin, We really enjoyed the whole weekend, crewing Khan was a pleasure, thank you... with good heartrates (44) and straight to the vet and all AAAA's, he's doing fine, pity he lost that shoe & pad after doing 75 miles.. he did and looked very well and was only 10 miles off the finish line..Better luck next time... I bet Mel is saying 'I'll be back'.
Hope you've managed to get all the mud off your car from inside & out..and you had a good journey home on Monday...to Linconshire... We met a flooded river on the way home, road was closed and had to turn around and go back, which involved unhitching the caravan and turning it around in a very narrow lane, a bit scary.. all went OK and we were soon on our way again..good job it was not horses in the back..the water was about 2ft high in the lane. Just about recovered here and put almost everything away and dryed out...till next time..2011...roll on....
Anyone heard who won the Team prize's... was it the Welsh Team ??????
Catch up at Warwick on Saturday..Bringing the Cake..... Cheers Sue

Posted - 04 Oct 2010 : 8:10:08 PM Thanks for the report, the pictures and the results Sue. More importantly many grateful thanks go to you and Cliff for braving the elements and spending your weekend crewing Mel and Khan. Gutted to be vetted out at VG5 with only 20km to go but with all A's and good presentations we now know he can do it! You'll not believe after yesterday but when I left Chris and Jim this morning the sun was out, the sky was blue without a cloud and the temperature was 17 degrees!! Speak in the week.

At least everyone turned UP and the ride ran.... all smiling faces tooooo. bit better than another ride that comes to mind..where they could'nt get off their as''''s. in the first place.... Well Done to Pat (+ Roger) and Welcome John Hudson.. A Great Weekend. A BIG Thank You needs to go to all the helpers, officials and Vets, who on Sunday morning, after two and a half hours of stair rod rain, where up and at it to make sure the first horses were away on time and everything was in place on course... Plus a very big Well Done to all the riders who ventured out and on to the very wet course on Sunday and made it all work, you all did so well in the conditions the Welsh weather threw at you.... Hope the young rider on the road near Ruhlan who's horse got spooked by the water coming off the hill (at speed) finished well, we were a little worried about you so close to the edge of the cliff. Posted - 22 Sep 2010 : 09:05:28 AM My first offer of help was to ride in full, had they had enough helpers I would have offered crew. If on gate duty though I will take water and sloshes with me- won't manage everyone but anyone in need can have some.
However, have to see how Marco is, have a vet visit today and feeling not good about leaving him for days so depending how visit goes my plans to come down may change. |

Posted - 21 Sep 2010 : 8:56:48 PM Fantastic to have such prizes, the ride/ event itself is always such a treat and worth every mile of our Journey from Aberdeenshire, sadly this year Marco won't be competing but as our accomodation was booked and I love the area I am coming down anyway for a wee holiday, am sure it won't be easy not competing but will be delighted to be helping after the miles of fun I have had at the ride- think I am on gate duty somewhere! |

Posted - 20 Sep 2010 : 09:07:10 AM Yep - thanks Sue. They're no longer going to have a 27cr class as not only does it not count for qualifications it doesn't count for trophy points either. So it's 40k or nothing - will decide nearer the time if I ride or not... potentially got other things going on that weekend now which are a bit more important! |

Hi Chris!!
I did it last year with Edna, fairy pony!!! I know we were not having the best of days (bless him!!) but it was/is not the nicest of decents (straight/very steep/long/stoney/slippery - stones and sheep poo on grass!! at least THE big hill has a bend in the track and some gravel) on an otherwise truely amazing/stunning course! He must know the Dragon is looming as he lost a shoe yesterday!! Looks like I may have to take the grey - eeek!! Pass the brown paper bag!!!!

Posted - 16 Sep 2010 : 9:03:03 PM Well Gabz, thanks for the enthusiasm for the yellow downhill LOL!
I've ridden the uphill up the road many times and been bored rigid by it - but have never ridden the yellow downhill - until I will have to 2 weeks tomorrow. I'll let you know how hateful I find it! It's the first time I've ever entered the Red Dragon 48km - at least I'll have all the fantastic mountain cantering with the yellow downhill as just an interlude!
Chris. |

Posted - 16 Sep 2010 : 8:45:03 PM I am in copmlete and total agreement with the above post, that STEEP downhill on the yellow bit is truely hateful, I would much rather a trot round the showground Peeeeeeeaaaaazzzzzzeeeee
My 2p worth added!!

Posted - 16 Sep 2010 : 7:17:09 PM All Pat has done is added a CR class on the existing 27NCR route.
The 27km route at Red Dragon is the same as the 41km route, except that at CP3 you go along the valley road instead of up-up-up the long boring mountain road to CP3A (which is what the 41km route does. These 2 routes (27km and 41km) then merge when the 41km route comes back down into the valley. I can assure you that the short distance on the top from 3A before you do the yellow steep downhill is poor recompense for going all the way up the mountain to come back down it almost straight away. I don't think anyone would want to do that - and I'm sure you'd bitterly regret it on the day if you talked Pat into letting you do it!!
Good luck with the upgrading!
Chris.

Posted - 15 Sep 2010 : 10:24:09 PM Thanks Sue - i think I'll email them. I've entered the 40km but would rather do the shorter distance as he's missed more work this week due to me being ill. |

Posted - 15 Sep 2010 : 8:14:37 PM You need to speak up and talk to John Hudson or Pat Conn ASAP, in case it can be sorted. Be a shame to miss out on an upgrade for 1.1/5kms. (1mile.ish). Maybe you could volunteer to ride the extra at the begining.(around the site.trip to the front gate and back)) Sue
Loosfure, Do I know you from the racing???, say hello, we'll be there.
Rachel, The showing is late,,they'll be like winter teddies by then. (who do I know who can run !!!!!!)

Posted - 15 Sep 2010 : 5:15:58 PM I see now thanks but it still reads 24km on the map and 27km under classes. Perhaps the loop around CP3 and CP3A ( green and yellow )would increase it enough.

Posted - 15 Sep 2010 : 4:46:15 PM Is the new route up on the map or have I missed it? |
loosefur |
Posted - 15 Sep 2010 : 3:48:08 PM I've just doubled checked and it needs to be within -5% of 30km. So would need to be 28.5km to qualify. Surely they could find an extra 1.5km from somewhere?! |
Rozy Rider |
Posted - 15 Sep 2010 : 12:04:33 PM Entries closed on Mondays Postmark, late entries now accepted. Leaving the Red Dragon Link, with the info of the additional Competitive rise on Saturday & Sunday for anyone with a late entry.
http://www.reddragon.endurancegb.co.uk/
Its a pity if the 27k competitive does not qualify for a 32k, maybe someone needs to ask the TS this question and maybe they will consider/arrange a ride round the showground to get it up to the required distance.
Also noticed there's an end of term party. Sue ( we will be there) till the end hopfully.

Posted - 15 Sep 2010 : 09:29:24 AM I noticed that too. But 27km is an odd distance isn't it? I need another 32-40km to upgrade my lad to Open. Even with the +/- 5% allowance 27km isn't far enough to count towards qualification. Very odd! |

Have you seen they have added 4 more classes on the Saturday and the Sunday 27km CR Novice and Open/Advanced!!!
Am hugely pleased to hear this as I had entered the 40km but have been having major flaps about getting my boy fit enough after a short spell off so I can downgrade and still do The Dragon!! Horraaaayyyyy!!!!!
