Posted - 02 Jun 2016 : 1:39:59 PM Hello all :)
So.. I've just purchased two grazing muzzles for Freya the fatty! The diet was going so well, but I've got to get her back into her own field [we've been grazing Splash and Freya in Mum's field since April] and my field has gone from a muddy swamp, to the greenest waist deep grassy meadow you can imagine.
I've bought a GreenGuard muzzle and a Dinky Rugs muzzle. Not sure which I'll keep yet, as I've read both good and bad reviews of each. I'm worried that her teeth will get wrecked from the greenguard, but the dinky might rub her. She has horrid sensitive skin, so anything touching her hair for more than an hour will rub.
Has anyone used either of these with any success?!

Posted - 03 Jun 2016 : 2:21:21 PM I've had some success with a Shires fleece lined grazing muzzle on my mare who has Cushings. She has managed to rub it off a time or two, but has got the hang of eating grass through the small hole at the end so tends to put up with it now. I like using it (not so sure about her though!) as it means she can still go out all day but with a much reduced risk of triggering the laminitis. Good luck with yours! |

Posted - 03 Jun 2016 : 06:54:57 AM I do think the grass has gone mad this year I'm just using lots of electric fence. Have never tried muzzles, although they are a good idea. |

Posted - 02 Jun 2016 : 8:18:13 PM I bought the Greenguard muzzle for a Welsh A pony. He broke the strap from the head stall to the muzzle the first day so I tied it with baling string. Then he actually grazed his lips and muzzle in his determination to get grass. Didn't work for me but Arabs are not usually so pushy as Welshies in my experience so may work well for you. |

Posted - 02 Jun 2016 : 7:15:40 PM Good luck...never used one, other have one with success but usually they got trashed! There is so much grass at the minute, our 2 usually have to stay in a bit longer than usual. :) |

Posted - 02 Jun 2016 : 4:58:20 PM I've used several different muzzles, including the Dinky rugs one, on a Shetland pony who has managed to wreck them all within a few days. They haven't lasted long enough to rub! But Freya may not be as determined as Tiger Lily! |
