Posted - 19 Nov 2013 : 7:24:00 PM Little Oscar arrived home safely on Saturday after a horrendous drive round the M25. He was very good in the car and slept most of the way. He has settled in well and loves his new big brother Murphy
Here are a few pics I took with my phone. Got loads on the big camera but need to download them.
In the car on the way home.
Settling in with big brother...
He sleeps a lot but when he is awake he goes around the living room in true whippet style |

Posted - 15 Jul 2014 : 8:32:32 PM Just look at that innocent "not me mum face" lol. It's a long time since I had a pup in the house as my lad is 13 but brings back happy as well as only just contained frustration memories. He is well loved x |

Posted - 15 Jul 2014 : 8:02:31 PM The cheeky little bugger is in my bad books today... He ate a SIM card for my new phone and my Tax disc.... He then chewed the extension lead while I was trying to cut the grass...!! And then sun bathed on the garden table while I was hanging the washing out.... The quilt is his bed and it was drying in the sun.

Posted - 26 Nov 2013 : 2:47:06 PM Think I just died a little bit. He's beautiful!!!! I want one. We used a crate with Archie, but he chewed through the base... Reason why he's missing 2 teeth!! So now, at night, dogs are banished to the kitchen And then allowed to rule the house during the day lol.
Definitely more photos needed... Need to keep smiling, and Oscar is the obvious smile cure!! xxxx |

Posted - 21 Nov 2013 : 1:21:31 PM He looks a right poser in the new pictures his looking straight at the camera.
I used to crate Winnie overnight I used to give her water in the crate but stopped as I read somewhere it will take them longer to be clean if they wee overnight, so I would offer her a drink before she goes in then outside for a wee, straight back in after they wee so they learn outside at night means last wee, and it worked no more wee in the crate, when toilet training I only gave her food 3 times a day with water so I can then time when she needed to go, if she didnt eat I picked it up then offered it later same with water, I only did it for about a week and she was clean, only the odd accident it is hard work for a while but they are worth it |

Posted - 21 Nov 2013 : 08:35:17 AM Thanks Suzi that's really helpful. I do have a towel or crate mat that covers the whole floor then he has a blanket to curly up in. He has a clip on water bowl in there too. A friend told me to remove the water but I don't want to do this as he has dry kibble and needs to drink lots of water.
I just remove the bedding and towel each morning and wash them and put clean ones in. I think we will just carry on and he will eventually learn to hold it through the night.
I took him on my dog walk this morning tucked into the front of my coat (as he can't go out until he has had his 2nd injection). He loved it until we turned the corner and the icy wind was blowing straight at us. He buried himself right inside my coat and didn't poke his head out until we got home |

Posted - 20 Nov 2013 : 8:37:31 PM He is georgeous.. I've crate trained alot of puppies, 10 have been with me for the whole of their puppy walk and others have come for specific bits of training. The idea of the crate is that it is a safe den, it encourages your puppy to exhibit a natural behaviour of not soiling its den/bedroom space. You dont want it to look like a toilet at all, I use vet bed or towels and just keep changing them until pup is dry overnight, they usually manage it within a fortnight I've had a few take longer but they were not my pups and had had mixed messages so it was a case of getting consistency into their toilet routines. If they call, I get up, if they dont I live with it until they fix it themselves! Good luck! I dont envy you the outside trips with the weather having turned, I usually have a pup this time of year but due to whelping complications I am puppyless, I think I'll wait till spring now with the winter they are promising! |

Posted - 20 Nov 2013 : 5:07:44 PM We used puppy training pads in his cage at night to soak up wee, then slowly moved them towards the door, ours learnt very quickly not to we in his cage, just the chewing we are still trying to overcome The cage we used was very big so we could also have his bed in and pads the other end . |

Posted - 20 Nov 2013 : 3:28:55 PM Oh Nichole he is absolutely scrummy!! He looks like such a character! Loving Murphy too, what a handsome, kind boy...and looks like he's being very tolerant of new pup!
When Pie was little, we crated him overnight, but he did used to alert us if he needed to go for wee-wee's, so got fairly used to getting up in the middle of the night to take him out. I think he only wet his crate the once, and that was our fault for not getting downstairs quick enough after his few minutes or so of whining to tell us he was bursting!(such a terrible mummy!)
Have fun with your gorgeous little time-waster! He really is a beauty |

Posted - 20 Nov 2013 : 2:29:21 PM Can't resist it, here are a few more pics
It's been 12 years since we have had a puppy in the house, I forgot what hard work it is and how my whole day has to be planned around toilet sessions and feed time
I'm using a crate for the first time with this puppy. It certainly helps contain the mess and I know he won't get hurt if Murphy decides he has had enough. While I'm home the door is left open and if he falls asleep somewhere else I pick him up and put him in the crate. When he wakes up its straight out for a wee and then a mad half hour of playing
When I go to bed he is shut in the crate for the night. I haven't heard him whine or bark during the night ( and I am a light sleeper) but in the morning he has pee'd in the crate on his bedding ( was advised not to put newspaper in as it encourages them to wee in the crate). He is only 8 weeks old so I can't expect him to go through the night without having a wee. Those of you who have used a crate, do you get up periodically during the night to let them out or do you leave them and they learn to hold it until the morning..? |
