Nadeem was out of the General Grant daughter Eloia who was Supreme British National Champion Mare and who in turn was out of Elvira by Rissalix !! So we do go back to Razina who was bred at Crabbet :))

My Crabbet girl is the grey in my photos, she is Celestial Silver (Aboud x Silver Yasmin) full sister to the chestnuts Charisima and Chanele all bred by Fiona Husband, Adamston Stud, Dundee. Alas my mare is no longer with me as I lost her when her colt was eight months. Although, I still have her colt who is around 60% Crabbet perhaps a little more or a little less as his sire is Egyptian although he does have his Crabbet Certificate which makes him 31% through his old Egyptian lines. Photos show Celestial Silver (Aboud x Silver Yasmin) High 90% Crabbet; her 2009 colt Bhaltos Ishtihar (Ahanu x Celestial Silver); and my colt's sire Ahanu (Emiratus B x Jiwan) approx 31%

I will post some photos hopefully as soon as I can find decent ones.

Hi Clare, as Fran says (thank you Fran !) the Welsh Crabbet Show is held at Pencoed College, near Bridgend it literally 2 minutes from the M4. If you click on my web site address you'll see a tab on the left for the show, its got last years info on at the moment but it'll give you an idea of the sort of classes we have. Me and Pam will be finishing off the schedule next week . along with some exciting new events ! All will be revealed soon.

Hi Lorraine, Cacharel says Hello, I'm hoping she'll be in the veterans at the show this year, she hasn't been out to show off for ages.

Are crabbets also known as "Old English"? I'm not very clued up on the Arabian types and years ago when I was speaking to a non-arab owner and said I like crabbets, she said they're Old English...???

I love Rusleem. I remember seeing pictures of him when he was younger in "The Versatile Arabian" book and I thought wow!

Alistair, I agree. The 75%+ classes need to be kept separate as otherwise its defeating the object of holding Crabbet classes but maybe have additional classes for 50 - 74.99% though I don't know how it could work as the Crabbet Organization are under a lot of pressure with heritage certificates as it is. A possibility could be if at least one parents percentage is known to be above 75%?? What do others think?

I have spoken to Daphne Cocksedge this morning who says that the picture you have of Ibn Silver (Indian Silver x Sherifah), taken by Merrie Boone when his was about ten is the only authorised photograph of him. She has also asked me to say that, unfortunately, she is no longer able to accommodate visiting mares and Ibn Silver is no longer at public stud. She is, however, expecting two foals by him next year, one of which will be 100% Crabbet out of Crystal Shadowlight and the other out of Crabbet/Polish Bint Arishma c.85% Crabbet. Daphne, who is not yet computer literate, has asked me to thank you for your interest.

What a lovely colt from Crystal Stardrift & Crystal Romance, hope someone buys him soon - his half brother (same dam) in Belgium is stunning, has size as well (15.3hh) & has had a good start to his endurance career - winning his 2nd race!

Nice to see 2 of Indian Banners fillies as well, both look fab! I also think it's a shame under 75% Crabbets don't qualify for Crabbet shows, couldn't there be a "Crabbet sired" or "Crabbet related" class for 50-75%?

Lots of lovely Crabbets - keep them coming!!

Kastell don't know if you've looked at The Welsh Crabbet Show thread on the showing section, but this is potentially make or break for the show this year, depending on how successful the show is this time we will either expand, and we welcome idea's on the sorts of classes people would like to see, please get in touch, or if people don't support us we will be reviewing on the basis of whether we continue to a fourth show

Hi Mandy, ok I will make a suggestion on that thread - although not being a UK resident myself I won't be coming unfortunately, I would love to though!

Shame there isn't some kind of online photo show for Crabbets, where people send in photos of their horses to be judged (several photos, front, back, side etc) that way us foreigners, or people who live too far from show venues / don't have the transport facilities etc can get their rare gems seen & appreciated! Maybe this could be a means of fund raising as well?

Hi George, all of your horses have Crabbet blood in them, although all of their pedigrees are complex & time consuming ones to work out, as some Crabbet blood comes from way back, mixed in with Russian, Polish, Egyptian, Spanish lines etc.

Just to give you a few noticeable names who are high percentage Crabbets, within each pedigree, Nabil has Ralvon Elijah 79+%, Dreaming Gold 100%, Baidaa is Crabbet / OE, Padron 60+%. Drucila has Silver Scenario 54+%, Salala 48+%, Nazeer 25%. Nebraska also has Nazeer, Rissalma 100%, Naseem 100% etc.

Hope that helps a bit.

Paulette I noticed him the other day . He is spot on.
I have an affinity for crabbets because of my first horse. All the same as long as they fit the Standard I don't care where they come from. I am not a great believer in the new description "Extremely Refined" as I like a good bodied Arabian. I get a little uneasy when I find people shifting ground on type or fashion but that's another topic.

Thanks for your kind comments. He has somewhere to put a saddle and is a lovely ride or was when I was more agile. A bitter dippy backed now but that's the Rissalix line. I totally agree about a good bodied arabian, there's nothing worse than thinking you are sitting on two planks of wood. I love Rusleema, beautiful mare. Found a photo of Rusleem taken at Malvern quite a few years ago. Will put it up tomorrow. I'm sure Donna Butcher would like to see it too.

Paulette . Being a bit dippy in the back is not the same as being weak backed, as long as the loins are strong. Personally I prefer a slight dip than a "laser leveled" back from the base of the withers to the root of the tail. My 1st arabian Taaj looked lovely under saddle, and he had a lot sticking out the back end

Paulette, Good to see you show him yourself. I was lucky to have the young lady up the road to do it for me ;and to back him. I don't ride, but I do have a pict of myself enjoing the Aussie sun at age 13 on board a horse my cousins had on the farm. If you tempt me I will show you.
I like to see a bit of white also as I relate this with authenticity ( there was a lot around when I started) . Thanks for the pic of Rusleem; first time i've seen it.
A horse can be short backed and still have a lot sticking out the back. I don't like a short croup and IMO in an effort to get a high set tail the croup length can shorten. The trick is to get a short back and a long croup and great length from point of hip to point of buttock.

Lindilou. Its a balanced horse that we like to see and he is that. And he is Arabian, and a very good specimen at that. It can drive you nuts, I imagine trying to breed pure this pure that, or straight this straight that
In my case my 1st experience with an arabian was so overpowering I became fixated on that type ;a bit like a chicken when it first hatches becomes fixed on the hen (forget the term they use). it's great to improve a horse in certain areas ,if you're a preservationist as long as you don't change the type in doing so. Possibly that's why I go on about the importance of the Standard.
In real terms ,to say my mare is 75% 0r her foal is in the 80's means sweet bugger all; as long as she's a good specimen of the arabian type though many will stumble on the figures.

Especially loving Paulette's Simailia Blue and Atillio's Rusleema and his old boy Taaj was a very handsome boy (very much my sort). I also agree with you Atillio regarding type, we all have our own preferences but as long as they look like an arabian I couldn't care less what their breeding is as long as I like the look of them. However over the years I have noted that a lot of the ones I do like always seem to come from the same families.

Must get some upto date pics of my 75% plus boy on here this weekend.

Well said!
Lovely pics everyone, gorgeous boy Lynda!
I agree that we shouldn't get TOO obsessed with bloodlines, however I do think authenticity is important, though I will leave the lid on that particular can of worms!!
Also... and I would say this wouldn't I? but LOOKING like a good Arab is not enough, they must move, behave and ride like a good Arab to be worthy of their heritage.
Anyone who may have missed it have a look on the showing forum re the Welsh Crabbet Show if you would like an eyeful of lovely Crabbet horses, Pencoed, Sept 11th is the place to be!... not too late to enter either!

He won the ridden at Windsor in the late 80's (I think, could have been early 90's!!) and quite a lot locally (Berkshire) but not a prolific showing or breeding home, he was a much loved and exceptionally kind and sweet natured horse.

If there are quit a few then the Preservationists could be cutting there own throat. It's their choice and there must be good reasons why they do this ,eg, not having to deal with troublesome outside mares etc.
It's no secret why I purchased my mare, imported her,and boarded her with the stallion owner for 2 yrs hoping to leave her there permanently as the stallions mate in order to preserve some of his genetic material. I have my suspicions the stallion owner never had her covered either because her horse was sterile or she doesn't want his lines continuing on in someone else's hands. He is now 20yrs old and has only one part-bred progeny. My mare has since produced after one covering with another horse. How the minds of some people tick is a mystery to me.
Which reminds me. Saw a rather vacuous statement on a facebook site yesterday--- IF IT'S NOT PURE CRABBET ,IT'S JUST ANOTHER PRETTY ARABIAN.

I clearly suffer from just having another pretty arabian(s) (the others are Russian and Russian-German/Polish. This is PSA Safeerah (Saffee) who is about 60% Crabbet, being by PHA Silvern Risalm and Shahi Bint Balaton (Russian).

Saffee will be 14 months old this week and is already 14h 1, so may end up being a big girl.

And our Hazara Khan (Harkem x Flying Della)who is about 87% Crabbet and the rest Polish,

I am putting up some piccies for Madeleine Sutherland of two of her lovely Crabbets. The first is of her beautiful mare Sunlights Imadge (Imad x Autumn Sunlight) who is six this year and 75%+ Crabbet breeding. She was the gold mare champion at the Midland Festival in 2010 with over 90 points, proving that Crabbets really can compete in the in-hand arena:

And this is her four year old 75%+ colt Silva Fire by Imad out of Yemama Rose:

Kaz thanks for the photo of our beloved Bertie (Ibn Marino Marini), we were blessed to own him for half his all too short life. We bought him at eight, having been shut in a stable for nearly a year, and lost him at 16 to stomach cancer, I still miss him every day.

He was truly the all round Crabbet, he raced, did a bit of dressage and showing, adored endurance and was incredibly kind, he was a Mikeno grandson and inherited that fabulously comfortable floating trot.

Sorry about the quality of the photo's, my scanner isn't working so these are photo's of photos, we're talking pre digital here !

I've been fairly certain for a while now that when my boy retires I'll be getting an Anglo, but if I was to be swayed to a Pure Bred it would be one like Bertie. I do love a powerhouse, leg at each corner type if you know what I mean. He was just luscious!

Plus of course he was a Mikeno grandson and I love that line - our dearly missed YO owned a Mikeno son (Mikhan of Pulpits) and he had a temperament second to none and just SO versatile!

Here is Cacharel again, she is a Crystal Magician grandaughter on her sire side and a Mikhan of Pulpits granddaughter on her dam side !

As Bint Arishma has a foal at foot and empty or one with no foal but in foal to Crystal Romance, great choices, have to decide soon. Arishma and Bint Irexandya have stunning useful foals which make great S/H, which is what im hope to breed with Masta. Very exciting times ahead. What a fascinating thread. I particularly loved seeing the photos of Ibn Marino Marini as my first Anglo, Autumn Light, was by Marino Marini and out of the TB Autumn Bride, bred by Joanne Lowe. She started my love affair with the Arabian breed. We rarely seem to hear of these lovely bloodlines now although Mikeno was such a star. The Part-breds who have followed Autumn, Vlacq Garnet (Ferozeshah/Hafod Kelly), Aldwych Arabesque (Sunray Scelebrity/Llanarth Rosetta) and Vlacq Redwood Reflection) (Vlacq Khazad/Vlacq Tathar) all have Crabbet bloodlines and all have exhibited those lovely Crabbet qualities.

Our small contribution is our recent rescue horse, whom we once owned for almost four years from a yearling.

Kaotic, (aka Arnie) now a sixteen year old, raced for several years and never shown by his former owners, before he came back home to us, and saved from an uncertain future

His sire is the late great Zircon Nazeer and Dam Damelia by Melchior
and Arnie is 68% Crabbet with fab limbs and great action

He is here for the rest of his life, is a pleasure to own and ride
and is enjoying going to the Shows.

A very happy horse and we are sure he remembers us and knows he is back home again

I also looked at Kaotic in 1997 but I went for a straight English colt, Silvern Spirit (Silvern Sceptre x Silver Sylph) as I decided I wanted an entire. He was tragically lost in a road traffic accident in 1999. He left only one foal, Ibn Spirit (x Shadowed Gold) who has recently come back to live with me. There seems to be small pockets of Crabbet/OE stallions turning up all over the country. Lisa it might be worth you having a trip to the East of England.

Alan - we're in Lancashire and have been breeding Old English lines for twenty years now. We've had good results in the show ring (wins at C shows and County Shows as well as NCPA Championships) and now concentrate on competing them at affiliated competitions (dressage, show jumping and eventing)

Another bit of good news for the Crabbet/OE gene pool. Both Marbon Masadi (100% Crabbet) by Naresh x Marbon Melissa & Crystal Magic (96.96% Crabbet/100% OE) by Silvern Sceptre x Crystal Lazuli have both been tested clear of SCID CA & LFS .
