Message:

I was just looking at the SE thread and seeing all these wonderful horses just relaxing at home got me wondering how many horses everybody has and where do you keep them all?

I've got two purebreds (mother and son) and they live at my friend's house, it's like my own little yard but with someone else (her poor long suffering husband) fixing the fences .

Hi Jen, Well, I have three, Celtic Maggie May (my pure bred arab) Shulay Montana (my part bred) and Callie (my connie x tb). They are all at my local stable on diy livery (costs me a small fortune but excellent faclities). Only 10 minutes from home and access to private beach so well worth the money, plus lovely people on our yard

None! Unfortunately, I seem to be at a point in my life where it would be silly and irresponsible to acquire another horse.

I really miss it and am hoping that I'll be able to retain links to the horsey community through helping with other people's horses and busy-bodying at shows.

I own 2 purebreds (one of which was pinched by my Mum about 15 years ago) and a dun tb x welsh pony, my sister has a purebred on loan and my nieces have a purebred mare and a welsh x tb pony (closely related to mine). We keep them all at a yard we rent about 2 miles from my house, very nice because we don't have to share it with anyone else.

All are kept at home now that we have been lucky enough to buy a farm. We used to have them at DIY livery some 17 miles away from the house - although we only had 8 horses at the time! Having them at home has made life sooooo much easier.

Dexter Valentino (Dex)
Allegra Bint Djammal (Legs)
LVA Delilah (Dee)

Hmmmm! We have eight...two of them are weanling's, Blue was my accidental way back to owning horses after an enforced six year break, I was helping a friend buy a first horse for her daughter from a local dealer when he said "ohhh I got one for you, clean legged an I know you'll like her..I made the best mistake by looking in the back of the trailer at this leggy blue and white 7mnth old filly, a week later she was being delivered she is 11 now and not the type of horse I would ever really have gone for, she was out of a heavy mare and a part bred TB but I love my "big butt" sooo much and she has given me some beautiful foals the first of which is Sahani Magic eagle (Magic) she is now 7 and we have loads of fun together, she is 25% Arab 25% Trakehner and 50% Blue, lol. Then we have our little pure bred mare Treebinshwm Drucila (Treebie) she was a bit of a rescue from brecon horse sales and as a six year old was only just about halter broken and had never even seen hard feed, she's now very protective of her feed! Then we have her daughter who is very special to my OH as she is the last foal by his Trakehner/Polish Arab stallion, he is also the sire of TJ our big, strong, handsome colt who we unfortunately will have to part with in the future if the right home comes along. Next to arrive was a beautiful fluffy colt last year called Tes Nabil and he really is the beginning of our dream of owning Arabians, next to join us is Lemon boxer my five year old sons pally and white shetland gelding he is only just three and although my son has sat on him and he is lovely and quiet we are going to take things very slow with them over this summer, and last but absolutely no means least is the beautiful Nebraska (still got to sort out the pics) she is settling in very nicely and we are enjoying getting to know her wonderful personality there are also two more of the foals we have bred at our yard one belongs to my sister and the other to my good friend so its lovely to watch them grow up too. The yard is a couple of miles away and although the facilities are quite basic everyone there help each other out and are friendly we all look out for one another's horses and the yard owner lives on site so it feels very secure with people coming and going at different times of the day, but I'm still waiting for my sister to buy a lovely house with land for my babies to live on

We have 3 (2 pure & 1 part) but looking for another pure
There is 21 yr old Rose Alba (Rosie) who has been with me since she was 6 months old:

and 4 yr old Shahir Neesaan (Bertie) who has been with us since he was 18 months old (hes Michelles):

And the part bred Classic Cantata (Ruby) who is for sale as Chelle has outgrown her:

I will be looking among this years crop of foals, for another pure bred, which will be my next show/ ridden horse for when Rosie goes into retirement. (Rosie will still be staying with us forever!!!)
My ideal is a bay filly, no white markings, with jaw-dropping movement, but if its a grey colt that makes my heart sing then thats what will come home.
We're quite lucky that we own 5 acres 2 minutes walk from home, and we get 'fined' for our stables and acre of grazing which is 5 minutes drive away which is 'court leet'land.

Not many stop at one do they! Somehow i'm back up to three not quite sure how that happened. Two purebreds and a New Forest Pony. I'm a sucker for buying ponies back after i've sold them! Ishara and Rioja are at one yard and Rioja is on loan to a lovely family and Beau is at a different yard which can be hard work but I love both yards so have the best of both worlds.

Here are Beau and The Pickle on their first hack out together, my friend kindly rode the Beau man - noone else is allowed on my precious princess (actually noone wants to get on her anyway)

And Rioja with her new little person she is teaching to ride, she is the sweetest pony who never puts a foot wrong sort very hard to find.

I feel positively ungreedy with my 3 golden girls now.

I've got my horse of a lifetime Fayrelands Hawaiian Dawn (Fayre) who is 28 and is Arab x American Saddlebred (Quadeha x Fayrelands Hawaiian Lady)

Then her 8 yo PBA neice Jazz (Springtimer Fabulous - Shulay Faberge x Roundhills Autumn Glory)who was meant to be her replacement but keeps breaking

And her distantly related yearling cousin Diva (Stonewalls Bourbon Rose) who is pure Saddlebred and is looking forward to meeting all you pally people at the shows this year - woop woop.

Family is made up with Cloigen Fair Gini my son's Welsh B who is just a pet and nanny to the babies, and Lynwood Big Bang my friend's huge Welsh x TB.

After 20 years of struggling to various pieces of land and livery yards and lining other peoples pockets we now have them all at home and we love it. Nothing like a yearling horse "helping" you put the washing out!

Mine are all old ones that I've bored everyone with a hundred times before. Dying to get their rugs off, give them both a good bath and get the trusty camera back out again!

There are one or two that I don't think I've put up before.

This is my beloved baby horse Sahara Bey (Sazi)

This is my equally beloved mummy horse Kuraishiya (K to her mates )

Both a bit scruffy but hey ho.Actually I think I have posted those before so apologies will get on the case soon!

I am very lucky to be owned by 4 lovely purebreds. (or should i say we as they are very definately at least 1/2 hubbys - and i am sure they love him more than me!)

Mum of them all Havannah (Maliek el Kheil x Hagunia) that is 22 this year and i hope will rule our lives for a lot longer yet.

Her 12 year old son NPA Hazan (by Shaikh al Kuran)
Her 5 year old Daughter NPA Habeeba (By Sensai)
& the "baby" 4 year old NPA Hasniyah (by HT Nybraska)

We are lucky to have a yard about 3 miles from home that we have rented for 15 years. 11 Stables and nearly 130 acres.

Mmmmmmm...... I rather suspect that all the culprits could possibly be harbouring rather extensive numbers of Arabians on their properties !!

Nikki - The boots are Rengades - we had them on for the first time since that pic today - I'd forgotten the faff of boots after being bare so long. 10 days of wearing them then back to bare. However as boots go, if you've got OH who's a dab hand at fixing the wires they are fab. Cinny has wrong shape hooves for easygloves, which are easier...

All I'll say about the new purebred is that she's another chestnut

Thanks Debs, he is doing so well :) The woman who starved him is mad that the rescue painted a poor picture of her (anonymously obviously) on their website, she was very vague as to where she got him even as far as which state he came from, you'd think shed have some kind of paperwork or name of a person she got her horse from.

Thanks LYNDILOU, he acts like an Arab a lot of the time, and looks like one, although not as typey as some. An old coggins from when his last owner bought him said 'R' which means registered but ive been through Datasource and cant find anything close to him within years of his age. I have a purebred "TFA Azeem" (TFA Sirius/Beat) he's a cheeky monkey and always up to mischief! Ive had him 5 years now, and this year he will be turning 15.
I also have an Anglo Arab "Kestrals Royal Gena" (Kestral/Carthagena)
She's my little angel, ive had her 12 years and in my eyes she can do NO wrong! ha ha, she will be turning 18 this year and still very young at heart!
I keep them both at my mums house, which causes a few family feuds every now and then but they soon realise their fields wouldn't look very pretty without horses!
P.S. If anyone has any info on TFA Sirius/Beat/Kestral id much appreciate.

Is someone doing an audit????

I'll confess to having 8 although if I am very lucky I'll have 10 by the end of May (1 due in April and the other May), so fingers crossed. They range in age from 2 yrs to 21 years, 6 x mares, 1 gelding and 1 colt. The gelding I am supposed to be selling but I can't face it after the scores of timewasters I dealt with last year for my endurance mare (now sold to great home so worth enduring), I've also branded him the studs Seabiscuit so we'll see if he lives up to his name next year!!! All racing bred lines, Russian, Polish, Egyptian, Crabbet and French lines.

I think Lin123 should confess now? I think she has more than me!!!

Great pic of Maj Gemma - "oi you there - do you know someone has left these 'ere moo cows in this field!"
Pintoarabian - done that too! 1 wormer left. Makes us look daft.

This is a recent pic of the Vlacq herd (mostly youngsters growing on). Every one a character

And a random shot from summer of a few of them up on their hill... it's a killer hill!

Too chilly to take gloves and socks off to count, that's my excuse! Funny how they creep in and multiply once you have them at home isn't it?!

The Vlacq herd look fabulous - LOVE seeing horses in a big herd like that

Jen, I'd love to oblige with the pics, but it would just take toooooooooooooo long

With regard to the babies, I do find it VERY hard to part with them. Some I intend keeping, others will go when I find humans special enough to be owned by them . Maybe I am too soft but I've turned down offers from abroad, simply because I don't like not being able to keep track of them, or being in a postion where I can't 'rescue' them if anything goes wrong....I'm sure the right folks will turn up eventually, and in the meantime, I'm happy to carry on loving them myself, though I must admit this Winter has been a really hard slog, so I won't be breeding so many mares, at least until we have a bit of room !
